Cleanings & Exams

Regular cleanings and exams are essential to maintaining your oral health. At Midtown Manhattan Dental Arts, our expert dental hygienists use advanced ultrasonic devices and hand tools to remove plaque and tartar buildup, preventing gum disease and cavities. After a thorough cleaning, we polish your teeth to leave them looking and feeling refreshed.

Following a thorough cleaning, our dentist will conduct a thorough examination to determine the condition of your smile. If we discover anything concerning, we will ensure you are informed and set you up with the appropriate treatment.

Custom Mouthguards

Whether you’re an athlete or a regular participant in high-impact activities, our custom mouthguards can protect your smile effectively. We design mouthguards to fit your dental anatomy, ensuring maximum comfort and protection. During sports or other activities, our custom-made products help prevent tooth damage and reduce the risk of injury to the soft tissues or dental structures.

Scaling & Root Planing

Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical periodontal treatment designed to combat gum disease, specifically gingivitis and mild to moderate periodontitis. The procedure involves a deep cleaning of the teeth below the gum line to remove plaque, tartar, and bacterial toxins, as well as smoothing the tooth root surfaces to promote healing and prevent future bacterial buildup.

The process typically consists of two main steps:

  • Scaling: During this phase, our team uses specialized instruments to carefully remove plaque and tartar deposits from the tooth surfaces and the area below the gum line. This meticulous cleaning helps eliminate the bacterial biofilm and the hardened calculus responsible for inflammation and gum tissue damage.
  • Root planing: After scaling, the dental professional will smooth the tooth root surfaces to eliminate rough spots or irregularities where bacteria and toxins can accumulate. This planing process not only discourages future bacterial growth but also allows the gum tissue to reattach to the tooth surface, promoting healing and reducing the depth of periodontal pockets.

Root Canals

Root canals are dental procedures performed to save a damaged or infected tooth by removing the inflamed or infected pulp, cleaning the inside of the tooth, and sealing it to prevent further damage or infection.

  • The process begins with a dentist administering local anesthesia to numb the area surrounding the affected tooth.
  • A small opening is then made in the tooth’s crown to access the pulp chamber. Using specialized instruments, the dentist carefully removes the pulp, cleans the root canals, and shapes them to prepare for filling.
  • The canals are then disinfected and filled with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha.
  • Finally, the tooth is sealed with a filling, and in most cases, a dental crown is placed to protect and strengthen the treated tooth, restoring its function and appearance.

Extractions

When teeth are severely decayed or damaged, they may need to be extracted. Our team specializes in simple extractions, ensuring a comfortable and stress-free experience for our patients. We use local anesthesia to minimize discomfort and employ gentle extraction techniques to preserve the surrounding bone and tissue. After the extraction, we will discuss tooth replacement options, such as dental implants, bridges, or dentures, to restore your smile’s function and appearance.
